EverQuest: Celebrating 25 Years of Adventure

EverQuest, a pioneer in the MMORPG genre, is approaching a significant milestone in 2024, its 25th anniversary. The team has announced “The Year of Darkpaw: An EverQuest Celebration,” promising a year filled with special events and activities. This includes giveaways like the classic style Orc Warrior metamorph wand and new collections highlighting nostalgic zones in EverQuest’s history, along with a limited-time Argent Clockwork Bear Saddle.

2023 saw substantial updates to EverQuest, including the release of Laurion’s Song, the game’s 30th expansion, which introduced a level cap increase to 125, Alternate Personas, new zones, collections, quests, missions, spells, and AAs. The year also featured the launch of Oakwynd, a unique TLP, and additions to several in-game events like Erollisi Day and Brew Day.

EverQuest II: 20 Years of Enchantment

Turning 20 in 2024, EverQuest II will join its predecessor in the Year of Darkpaw celebration. The game has already seen significant additions in 2023, including the 20th expansion, Ballads of Zimara, which introduced Chrono Dungeons and an Advanced Researcher. Other notable releases were Empire of Antiquities, Shattered Overture, and Fractured Skies.

Looking Ahead to 2024

The narrative of “Ballads of Zimara” unfolds amidst a series of catastrophic events affecting shoreside communities in Norrath. Players are drawn into a conflict in the Splendor Sky Aerie, located in the Overrealm, where a mysterious force threatens the peaceful hooluk community.

Key to the expansion is the Zimara Breadth, situated in the deteriorating Plane of Sky. Here, the storyline revolves around the Djinn Sovereign, who is struggling to maintain his empire against external planar forces. The Sovereign’s army, which includes a new type of metallic djinns, plays a significant role in the unfolding events.

One of the central plot points involves the discovery of a captive in Vaashkaani, the Alcazar of Zimara, who is linked to the creation of the metallic djinns. The story raises questions about the potential defeat of the Djinn Sovereign and the fate of his army.

The expansion increases the adventure and tradeskill level cap to 130 and introduces a range of new content, including signature quests, achievements, collections, and new zones for both heroic and raid encounters. New areas introduced in this expansion include the Aether Wroughtlands and Vaashkaani, Alcazar of Zimara.

“Ballads of Zimara” is now available for purchase, with a 10% discount offered to new All-Access members. This expansion is part of EverQuest 2’s ongoing content updates, aimed at providing players with new experiences and challenges within the game’s fantasy world.

Daybreak Games hints at a potential “EverQuest 3”

In a move that had many MMORPG aficionados double-checking their calendars to confirm it wasn’t April Fools’ Day, EG7 finally provided the first official confirmation that a new EverQuest title is in the works, although in a very early phase. The revelation came during EG7’s Capital Markets Day stream.

Long Road of Rumors

Talk of a new EverQuest game has been circulating since as far back as 2018 when Daybreak was the custodian of the iconic franchise. Former Daybreak executive Holly Longdale had previously indicated in 2019 that there was a “future” for EverQuest, though she made it clear that a “strict remake” was not in the cards. Longdale has since moved on to become a VP at Blizzard, overseeing World of Warcraft.

Daybreak itself underwent significant changes, getting acquired by Swedish gaming conglomerate EG7 in 2020. Interestingly, Daybreak’s executives have subsequently infiltrated the higher echelons of EG7, leading the company’s strategic vision.

EG7’s Ambitious Plans

EG7’s CEO Ji Ham discussed several in-development projects during the Capital Markets Day event, including a slide dedicated to the EverQuest franchise. Despite being in the “ideation phase,” Ham was optimistic about the brand’s potential and mentioned a target launch window of 2028. He considers EverQuest as EG7’s “most important IP,” but cautiously noted that the project might still be shelved.

Ham playfully suggested that if he were to officially announce EverQuest 3 today, it would immediately make global headlines. And it seems he’s absolutely correct; news outlets and fans are already dissecting every word of the announcement and what it could mean for the future of MMORPGs.

The Path Ahead

While the title is still in its conceptual phase and won’t see any substantial investment until around 2025, this announcement is significant. It puts an end to years of speculation and hopes that the EverQuest franchise was not completely dead in the water.

But for now, all we can do is wait and see whether these plans will materialize into an actual game that lives up to the storied legacy of EverQuest, a franchise that has indelibly shaped the MMORPG landscape.

The Scorched Sky Celebration is back in full swing, turning up the heat in EverQuest II’s Summer Jubilee with a fiery extravaganza like no other. With the primal power of fire and flame at its core, the celebration invites daring adventurers of all levels to test their mettle in an exhilarating event running until July 12, 2023.

In the heart of the festivities, Fennin Ro and his son, Solusek Ro, are on a quest to expand their devotees. The event brings several exciting features, including a brand-new quest “Brimfire and Flame,” obtainable as loot from fire elementals. Also, the thrilling adventure quest “Combusting at the Seams,” offered by Chandrima in Butcherblock Mountains, is now available to all levels.

Fans of dungeon-crawling can enjoy a level-scaling version of ’22 dungeon, “Doomfire: Ro’s Sweatshop,” for characters under level 119, accompanied by a new exploration achievement called “Feel the Burn.” The dungeon is also home to the new collection, “Ro Resident Relics.”

EverQuest II’s Ember Merchants have 16 new items on offer. Meanwhile, the Ember Merchant Assistant retains previously available items.

In a novel introduction to the game, Scorched Sky presents the in-game “Swag Bag.” Players can earn Scorched Swag from daily missions, which can be exchanged at a merchant in Raj’Dul Plateaus. Swag Daya Brackins, the Swag It Out Merchant, is accessible only during the Scorched Sky event.

Alongside, temporary 10-day perks include Lockout Scorchers for resetting specific instances, and Apotheosis of Scorch Solo and Heroic buffs, melting your baddies to butter and easing basepop concerns, respectively. EverQuest 2 players are in for a treat this summer as the Summer Jubilee gears up to kick off on June 5, 2023, alongside the beloved Tinkerfest event. This summer-long event promises to introduce new features, including a novel item slot, a summer dungeon, and a myriad of seasonal features.

The event’s highlights start with the introduction of the new item slot – Plume. This item will make its debut during the Summer Jubilee, offering players three types and tiers of Plumes, namely Ability Doublecast, Crit Bonus, and Max Health Percentage.

Once a player unlocks their first Plume item, they will earn a recipe allowing them to craft a tradeable Plume for others, thus promoting interaction among the gaming community. Interestingly, the power of your Plume will increase when grouped with other Plume users, irrespective of the Plume tier. Moreover, the stats on Plumes will depend on your character’s level, and even players on Time Locked Expansion (TLE) servers will have access to two Plume items.

Complementing the festive atmosphere is the new solo dungeon, Triad of Elements. Open to all, regardless of level, the dungeon will be available for repeated completion throughout each Summer Jubilee in-game event (Tinkerfest, Scorched Sky, Oceansfull). Each completion promises to reward players with five Silver Jubilee Medals, and enough completions might earn you a Plume upgrade. You can find the dungeon via the celestial aperture portal located in Moors of Ykesha.

The Triad of Elements offers a thrilling storyline involving mysterious portals opened between Norrath, the Plane of Innovation, Plane of Sun, and Plane of Water, bringing chaos and clockwork drones. Players will have to restore peace in Norrath and close these disruptive portals.

Jubilation parades and merchants will be found in player cities, where players can exchange their Silver Jubilation Medals for exclusive event armor, house items, recipes, instruments, and equipment. A whopping 22 new items will be added to the inventory, including a new dog, mount, and building block set! Silver Jubilation Medals can be earned by completing most repeatable content during the event and also have a chance to drop as loot from the end bosses in the new level 1 to 119 scaling dungeons.

The Summer Jubilee event extends to special rules servers, allowing players to start earning Silver Jubilation Medals during Tinkerfest and continue earning them through the Scorched Sky Celebration and Oceansfull Festival.

EverQuest 2 fans, it’s time to gear up and get ready for some exciting new adventures! The latest Player versus Player (PvP) Time-Locked Expansion (TLE) server, Zarrakon, is now officially live and accessible to all All Access members.

Zarrakon’s launch brings a range of exciting features and gameplay options to the world of EverQuest 2. The server is faction-based PvP, making for a thrilling and competitive gaming experience. Additionally, the server is free-trade, so players can buy and sell items freely without restrictions.

The server launches with three expansions: Shattered Lands, Deserts of Flame, and Kingdom of Sky, with more expansions to follow at a similar pace to the previous PvP server. Players will have access to PvP quests and rewards starting in the Kingdom of Sky expansion, and there will be frequent patches and updates to address any bugs or issues that arise.

Fans will be excited to hear that Turquoise adornments and slots are available on Zarrakon, and Echoes of Faydwer will have avatars enabled. Players looking for a change of pace can take advantage of the Change of Citizenship NPC to betray their current faction once every 24 hours.

The Marketplace on Zarrakon is mostly unlocked, with the exception of XP potions. With all of these features and options, players are sure to enjoy countless hours of thrilling gameplay and unforgettable adventures on the new Zarrakon server.

Empire of Antiquity is now live and promises to be the darkest and most challenging chapter yet.

Gamers have already explored the Elddar city of Takish’Hiz and helped defeat Malachiel Caedor. Now, they can explore the darker reaches of Norrath and investigate the mysterious whispers that have been circulating. Historians, treasure seekers, and devoted worshipers are all itching to explore the region and discover new power.

The Empire of Antiquity introduces new, powerful artifacts that can be discovered, along with impressive arcanum that can be learned as players investigate the history of the Elddar Empire. Players will also need to battle aggressive aspects of growth while protecting the Empire from terrors both inside and outside of the realm.

The update includes a new Overseer Season 05 in Kunark, which features new achievements, rewards, 33 new quests, and 20 new agents, including common, uncommon, rare, and ultra-rare options. There is also an update to the Overseer vendor with old agents.

The expansion also features a new massive contested dungeon, Buried Takish’Hiz: Empire of Antiquity, which includes updated zone art, 33 contested heroic and solo bosses, a new contested raid encounter, over 40 adventure quests, new tradeskill quests, and new adventure and tradeskill collections. There are also new missions and achievements.

Players can enjoy new momentous raids such as Buried Takish’Hiz: Emergence from Stone [Raid], where they must brave the guardians of the stone deep and unlock the curse that holds the ancient Elddar city captive. There is also Sultan’s Mahala: Daggers Drawn [Raid], where players must seek out the Sultan of Daggers and confront her magic in its most raw and unchecked form.

Exciting new tradeskill content has been added, and players can visit Gnorbert, who is now in charge of the crafting side of things at the new site. Ruby-shaded spike-like implements can be found throughout Raj’Dur Plateaus, Takish Badlands, Sandstone Delta, and Buried Takish’Hiz: Empire of Antiquity. There are also new red shiny collections and distillation/dilution recipes for Vetrovia transmute materials.

Guilds can also enjoy a new inspiring guildhall, the Verdant Takish’Hiz Guildhall, which can be earned by completing Empire of Antiquity tradeskill and heroic missions.

Players can enjoy new impactful adventure quests and enticing merchant buyables, including 25 new house items, illusions, and pets. Merchants such as Tayyar, Keelor Freegust, and Anwyl Ashbrand sell new housing items, housing pets, and baubles.

Gamers who have already accomplished so much are being challenged to follow the whispers and investigate the darkness. The Empire of Antiquity is now live, so step up and earn some valuable rewards in the process.

Kael Drakkel is set to become the go-to destination for players who want to jump in and explore Norrath without worrying about the complexities of getting to end-game content compared to Live and TLE servers.

Effective immediately, players can enjoy Kael Drakkel for free until April 25, 2023, with no subscription required. Additionally, a new Jumpa-Lope pet will be given to all players just for logging into the server during this time.

EverQuest 2 has announced that the beta version of the much-anticipated Empire of Antiquity Game Update has officially launched. Players are invited to jump in and get an early sneak peek of the new content that will be available when the full update is released in April.

The announcement was made on the EverQuest Show, where players were given a preview of what to expect from the Empire of Antiquity update. The beta testing phase is open to all players, regardless of their level or experience with the game.

Some of the new features that players can expect to see during the beta testing phase include a new contested dungeon, new adventure quests, new tradeskill content, and new collections. These additions are expected to provide players with hours of exciting gameplay and give them even more reasons to log in and explore the world of EverQuest 2.

The developers of the game are also keen to receive feedback from the players during the beta testing phase. They are encouraging players to share their thoughts on the new content, as well as any bugs they may encounter. Exciting news for all EverQuest 2 fans, a new PvP TLE server is set to launch soon! Named Zarrakon, this server promises to bring hours of exhilarating gameplay with its faction-based PvP and free trade server features. The server is exclusively available to All Access members, so upgrade now to get ready to rumble!

Zarrakon will be launching on April 25, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. PDT. The server will start with the Shattered Lands, Deserts of Flame, and Kingdom of Sky expansions, so players can dive right into the action from day one. Additionally, PvP enthusiasts can look forward to PvP writs and PvP-specific rewards starting from the Kingdom of Sky expansion.

There will be frequent patches and updates to address any bugs or issues, and these will be applied every second and fourth Tuesday of the month, as well as as they become necessary. Turquoise adornments and slots will also be available, and Kingdom of Sky will open with mid-content active.

Betrayal will work in the same way as it did on previous PvP servers, with a cooldown token required. Echoes of Faydwer will have avatars enabled, and there will be a beta test for Zarrakon in the coming days or weeks, so players can experience the server before its official launch.

The marketplace will be unlocked for Zarrakon, with the exception of XP potions. The release schedule for expansions will be roughly the same pace as the previous PvP server, with advance notification should this change.

Daybreak Games, the developer behind EverQuest 2, has released its 2023 roadmap for the game. The new year promises a variety of updates and new content for players to enjoy, including new raid zones, updates to existing events, and new game updates.

Starting in January, players can look forward to new raid zones being unlocked in the Renewal of Ro, including the Raj’Dur Plateaus: The Hunt and Sandstone Delta: The Standing Storm. February will see the unlocking of the Fallen Dynasty on the Varsoon server, where players can explore the Island of Mara and its environs. There will also be new updates to the Erollisi Day event and a new raid zone in Takish Badlands: The Boundless Gulf.

March brings more updates, including to the Chronoportal Phenomenon and Brewday Festival events, as well as a new raid zone in Buried Takish’Hiz: Emergence from Stone. The Game Update 122 beta will also open, and there will be server mergers between Tarinax and Antonia Bayle and Kaladim and Antonia Bayle.

April will see more updates to existing events, such as Beast’r Eggstravaganza and the launch of Game Update 122, which will include new raids, a contested dungeon, quests, tradeskill content, collections, and the Overseer Season 05. Varsoon will also unlock Echoes of Faydwer, allowing players to explore the continent of Faydwer and access new class Alternate Advancement trees.

May brings a Mercenary AI update, and June will see a new equipment slot for equipment obtained through live events. There will also be updates to Summer Jubilee’s Tinkerfest and Patches of Pride events, and Varsoon will unlock new content in The Estate of Unrest, Shard of Fear, and three contested Avatars.

July will see the beta launch of Game Update 123, and August will bring the full launch of the update, along with new updates to the Summer Jubilee’s Oceansfull Festival. Varsoon will also unlock Rise of Kunark, allowing players to pillage the ancient lands of Kunark.

September brings an expansion prelude, and October will see the beta and pre-order launch of the 2023 expansion, along with updates to the Nights of the Dead event and new content on Varsoon in Runnyeye: The Gathering, Veksar: The Invasion, and Shard of Hate. November will see the Extra Life Game Day and updates to the Heroes’ Festival, and the expansion will launch at the end of the month.

December will bring updates to Frostfell and new content on Varsoon in The Shadow Odyssey, and there will also be a Swag Store release with a date to be determined. Beyond 2023, Daybreak Games plans to port the game to the DirectX 11 API.
