Legends of Aria is getting the blockchain makeover, and it promises to be a AAA game with play-to-earn elements according to Joseph Rubin, the CEO of Reaper Games. Rubin laid out the plans in a recent discussion on the Legends of Aria Discord channel.

Blue Monster Games (Now Reaper Games) made the announcement late last year that it had acquired the MMORPG and its developers Citadel Studios.

In addition to the AAA makeover, Legends of Aria will be getting its own token, called Aria Token, and in-game poker tables.

According to Rubin, the re-release of Legends of Aria is not far away at all and it looks like Reaper Games is planning for a Q4 release.

This means that Legends of Aria will be the first and only blockchain MMORPG to go live in 2022.

The press release announcing the acquisition of Legends of Aria and its developer Citadel Studios by Blue Monster Games is making it sound like two titans of the gaming industry have come together. When in reality it seems like the deal is just another dime-a-dozen NFT/Metaverse gaming company buying a long-dead indie MMO.

The acquisition will also mark the first time that an existing AAA game will be updated with blockchain and Web3 mechanics, thus “metaversifying” it with NFTs and token-based in-game currencies. Legends of Aria is expected to be the first entry to Realms of Ethernity’s “meta-metaverse” concept, and RETH holders will be given exclusive access to the soon-to-be-announced Legends of Aria’s IDO.

Calling Legends of Aria a AAA game makes about as much sense as comparing Blue Monster Games’ metaverse, called Realms of Ethernity, to World of Warcraft. (something the developers have done). Citadel Studios raised over $100,000 back in 2014 for Legends of Aria but was quickly forgotten. The game currently has 17 players on Steam.

The Legends of Aria team has posted a new Development Update for March 2021 in which the delay of Point Release 11 is announced.

The reason for postponing Point Release 11 is due to a temporary loss of key members within the team. Instead, the smaller team will focus on other areas of the game, mainly factions and a new server called the Forge.

The single most common request was for our team to revisit factions. This was something we always intended to do when we initially removed the feature from the game, but we did not have the time to devote to development on a meaningful faction system that could not be easily exploited with the other features we had already committed to in our Point Releases. With development on Point Release 11 suspended, we have the capacity to revisit this system. 

The new server, The Forge, will be an experimental server that will require a Citizen’s Pass or active subscription.

In our discussions with the community, several pieces of feedback have given us a starting point for this experimental server. We want to work to make sure the space in our game is meaningful. The size of the world on our existing official servers doesn’t make that easily achievable, so we will be starting small with The Forge. To prepare for the launch of this server, we will be revisiting the map of Celador and creating a smaller, more intimate play area designed to encourage cooperation.

Season 7 in Legends of Aria begins today in the Misty Caverns in the Southern Rim region.

New dynamic spawn events where players are tasked waith handeling the growing golem resistance.

You will earn credit for killing creatures and bosses at the dynamic spawn events.

The Legends of Aria devs have posted a new development update with some new info about the Outlands.

The post on the official site covers a bit of info on the new areas the Necropolis and Hangman’s tree as well as a segment on the new Necromancer class.

Necromancers will start out with the ability to summon a base minion type that will be “upgradeable” through the necromancer infusing their essence into the minion.  By essence, we mean life. Necromancers will not feature a traditional mana/energy pool but will instead use their life force as their primary resource to cast spells and enhance minions. These base minions will have the ability to be enhanced to fill specific roles that the Necromancer may need at the time, such as melee, ranged, and magic damage dealers as well as minions that can actively taunt enemies

A DLC called Dark Sorcery was announced at the Legends of Aria site. It will already be released later this month at 19.99$ and is available for pre-order now.

The theme of the DLC looks dark and Lovecraftian by the art posted on the site.

The DLC will add a new dungeon called the Monolith, new enemies, skills, and loot.

By pre-ordering the DLC you will also get the Dark Echo Fox Mount.
